There are many reasons why people shouldn’t automatically trust that the State, or its representatives, or its experts have your best interests at heart, or are even correct.

This is just one reason. This happened in Italy, but there is nothing magic about the UK, or our democratic system (hah), or the air we breathe, or the water we drink which means it can’t happen here.

Mistrust of power is wisdom. The further away, the less accountable, or the more powerful it is, the more it deserves to be questioned and mistrusted. The ability to remove children from parents is about as powerful as it gets. Mistrust should reign supreme, with the highest levels of scrutiny and transparency.
